More pictures...blah blah blah

My kids (and the weather but, mostly my kids) have destroyed SEVERAL sand boxes. Frankly, I'm tired of forking over money for stuff I know will break. So I I framed out a new sand box with some bricks we had laying around and a few I bought this morning at the hardware store. It's not the prettiest thing. But, I'm fairly certain my kids can't destroy brick:D The best part about having this sandbox is that lots of children can use it at the same time....if GH will let them;)

Jenna and Calvin came over to play after playgroup. They spent the entire day (except for 15 minutes for dinner) outside until their mom came to pick them up at 7. Needless to say Jenna's pretty white top was not white by the end of the day. The top was definately a candidate for a Tide commercial. The shirt would have made a wonderful before picture.
The girls enjoyed a little field hockey.

Rooster and Big Dog learned how to climb to the top of the playhouse. They got this fine idea after Captain Awesome put GH up there. It's going to be fun breaking them of this little habit. I can't believe this happened. Until today I felt certain that I had instilled in my children a ridiculous amount of fear and paranoia. How could they think this is a good idea?

Playgroup Easter Party

Kim was kind enough to host an Easter party for all the kids in our playgroup. The children enjoyed pizza and juice boxes. GH enjoyed his lunch. But, he also enjoyed Jenna's too;)

Then it was time for the Easter Egg hunt.
Here is GH with the collection of eggs.
Big Dog did collect some eggs. But he just wanted to play on the toys. Here he is with Jenna. She convinced him to go on this swing even though he wanted to play on the slide. I think she might be calling the shots;)

This next picture is a reenactment. I didn't have my camera out when he was actually looking in the gutter drain. When I did get my camera out I said "GH pull up the gutter and look in it again" And he did:D Like I told Melaney, "You can tell he is the child of a blogger. He knows how to reenact an event" And really, it's just easier to do reenact it than to listen to me whine about never having my camera out at the right time.

Aren't they all so cute?!

Happy Birthday Karina!

Yummy Yummy in GH's Tummy......

I usually don't post recipes. Mostly because I'm an awful cook/baker. But, I wanted to share this recipe....in case you are like GH and you need to put on a few pounds.

A week ago my mom sent a care package to the kids. Inside was some gourmet mix that my mom probably wasted a lot of money on.....because that's how she rolls. GH absolutely loved this sweet trail mix. So I decided to try to replicate it. The kids LOVE it and unfortunately so do I;D

I put a healthy layer of store brand Golden Grahams at the bottom of a cake pan. Then I layered a 1 cup of white chocolate chips and 1 cup of semi sweet chocolate chips on top of the Golden Grahams. I put them in the oven at 300 degrees. I waited a few minutes (just long enough for the chips to start to melt) I pulled the pan out of the oven and stirred the mixture very carefully so the melted chocolate would touch a few more Golden Grahams. Next I placed mini marshmallows on to the top. Then I put the pan in the fridge to cool.

When it cooled completely I broke the Golden Graham mixture apart and put it in a large Ziploc bag.

Help us name our new turtle

He already has a name. But, we are looking for a code name for him to go by on the blog. You can't really see him in this picture. He's kind of elusive................... If you look on the margin of the blog you can choose between Spike, Tuck, Pedro, and Donatello. You can always start a write in campaign for a name of your choosing by using the comments option on either the blog or Facebook. Facebook buddies do not have to go over to the blog. Just leave a comment if you want to vote.

This turtle is all attitude. He hisses and snaps. I'm guessing he isn't a cuddler:D Haha

A Friendly Palm Sunday Reminder

Palms are not for eating.....
Yes, I'm looking at you Rooster;)

Rooster's Fancy Cheesecake

Rooster surprised Big Dog with a cheesecake for his upcoming fourth birthday.
Rooster is like the Martha Stewart of her generation.

...because we don't let our children have any toys

GH was forced to use this case of pop as a train.

GH loves his new "choo choo".

It's adorable when the elderly curse. And pictures from today

GH continues to be picky about what he eats. He likes popcorn so I'm trying to fatten him up with popcorn butter from Orville Redenbacher. It is delicious. I guarantee that even if GH doesn't gain five pounds in the next three months I will.

GH is the first person in my family that has been told to gain weight. It makes me question if he was switched at the hospital;) When I told my mom about his weight issue she immediately asked if they had accused me of starving him, and if the state was going to get involved. Well thanks mom for giving me something more to worry about. Not that I'm not already worried enough. Things like this certainely don't help our already strained relationship. No wonder I'm a complete freakazoid. Anyway, let's not dwell on the fact that my kid is scrawny or that I'm a freakzoid. Look at how cute GH is. He thinks he is a robot:)

And even though he's not even two, he has turned into quite a tracker. Here he is after catching his first rock. He pulled it out to show it to me and said "rock". Thats right my boy is going to be a big game hunter someday. Maybe he might even have one of those lame hunting shows on tv.

You may have noticed the fence in the background of the above picture. We decided to fence in the area from our back door to the back yard. This way I can let the kids run outside without the fear of them getting mowed over by our neighbor. She drives this huge white car thats the size of a boat. The thing barely fits through the alley. Anyway, she can barely see and is always hitting the curb when she pulls into the alley. Sometimes she curses like a sailor which I find endearing beacause it's adorable when old people curse:D My cable guy got into it with her a few months back. It was a loud scene with colorful language. I thought I was going to have to call the cops. Ridiculous....anyway, I really went away from the point of this post:)

At this point you are probably asking, what is the point of this post? Well like all my other posts it's about how cute my kids are. DUH! Here's another picture of my little guy GH.

Rooster in another ridiculous pose:D At least shes having fun.

The kids have enjoyed playing in the dirt pile with Captain Awesomes old trucks. I'm debating whether or not to even do a garden this year. I never keep a garden maintained properly. The only thing that I like about having a garden is that the kids love eatting the veggies. Rooster ate all the brocolli last year before it was even ready. Which is really cute...but, a little gross too.

Big Dog loves the new fence because he gets to spend more time outdoors. He loves being outdoors and he is exhausted by the end of the day
Sweet dreams Big Dog.

A new math activity

Rooster loves the Easter Egg playing cards Aunt Shelia sent. We decided to take out all the Aces, Kings, Queens and Jacks. Then we made math problems from the cards see pulled.

Rooster loved this activity and did it several times.

This week............

This week GH and I spent some time with my mother-in-law who is recovering from knee surgery. GH had a blast with grandma. And I think the feeling was mutual. While grandma was in physical therapy. We tried to keep ourselves busy. I got these pictures on one of our trips to a local park. For a town of 900 people they have an incredible park. GH had a blast.

GH loved this sitting area. Local kids had made cement blocks with their names and hand prints. Some of them were decorated with colorful rocks. GH couldn't understand why he couldn't pick up the pretty rocks:)

Big Bertha is not a hybrid

Earlier this week we went mini-van shopping. Vehicles are expensive! But, luckily I don't have sophisticated tastes. Out of all the vehicles we saw I like this one the best. If we could get something like this that was mechanically sound I would buy it:)

Captain Awesome isn't completely sold on a full size van even though he agrees that the extra space would be awesome for trips etc. He says that one of my best traits is that I'm not vain. And that I would have no problem driving something that is ugly if it serves our needs. I'm not sure this fine "velvet" interior is ugly....
Curtains, a dust buster and fire extinguisher......this is one sweet ride. I don't have anyone to impress. Sure my hippie friends are gonna say that I should fork out the $35,000 for a little hybrid,. But, let's get real. Everyone knows I'm far to cheap to do something like that. Plus hybrids don't have this classy interior....or Cb's

Captain Awesome says that he is more vain than I am. And that he would be keeping our 4 wheel drive Explorer. Which I totally understand since we just had a horrible winter. We probably need that automobile.

If I do get one of these full size vans. I'm going to go make some bumper stickers on cafe press. Something like "I love my gas guzzler" or "I don't brake for baby seals"...you know, something really classy:)

A visit from the tooth fairy

I took Rooster to the dentist today to remove her two bottom front teeth. We let it go far too long. I had really wanted to avoid it. So for the last few months we wiggled them, and wiggled them. But they wouldn't budge. Rooster doesn't like going to the dentist. And I hate dealing with the sensory issues that usually occur when we visit a dentist. I know..... I get an A in parenting;)

Anyway, a miracle happened. Even though she had to get a local (which made her bleed) she was calm the whole time. I think the dentists bribe of a large ball with stars in it might of helped a bit;) She didn't cry, gag or vomit. I couldn't believe how smoothly it went. My first emotion was overwhelming relief. But it also made me really envious of people who don't have our struggles. It must be so easy to do the things that are sooooo hard for us.

Before bed Rooster double checked her purple velvet bag to make sure both teeth were there. Then she wanted to write a letter to the Tooth Fairy. This is what she wrote.

Well the Tooth Fairy was unable to find chocolate coins at the Dollar General down the street. But, she was able to find some Rolo's wrapped in gold foil.
The Tooth Fairy (at ToothFairycity.com) authored the above note to Rooster with only a few minor alterations.
Dear Ruzenka,
Little child, gently sleeping
Baby teeth, now mine for keeping
Beneath your pillow, under your head
Your teeth I took, your treat I left
Sorry it's not gold coins, this is all that I had
I certainly hope that you are not mad
Your teeth so shiny, so white, so bright
Keep on brushing
And I'll return another night
Love
The Tooth Fairy
I thought the Tooth Fairies note was nice and all. But, she left a huge trail of pixie dust which looks a lot like sprinkled glitter. And everyone knows how I feel about glitter. I'm sure that will be fun to clean up:D

Our week in pictures.....minus the vomiting

GH loves his "new" FP train.

I really like this photo of the boys. I'm going to turn it into a black and white photo. Then put it up on the wall in the bathroom with my other favorites.
GH continues to be a picky eater. However, Rooster found a weakness. GH will eat Dollar General Valentine suckers.

Rooster loves this mini Montessori cylinder set. GH likes it too but only does one set at a time.

Spelling

Rooster is always asking Captain Awesome and I to spell words for her. One day while we were sitting at the table eating lunch I was spelling words for her. Big Dog then spelled A-B-B-E-Y. I looked at him and said "What?" He responded by giggling. Rooster said "He spelled Abbey". I asked her "How does he know how to spell Abbey?" She started giggling and said "Abbey is his girlfriend". At this point Big Dog was covering his face with his hands and giggling.

I have to find out who this Abbey girl is. And when did my daughter learn about girlfriends and boyfriends? I guess Krimsin warned me that this was coming.

Recovering

Big Dog is one lucky dog. Today he spent seven hours outside playing in the backyard. He is a different boy when he gets to spend his days outdoors. He is truly joyful. I have never seen anyone so happy about anything:D Children are so special.....they find so much joy in nature. I know the children have been anxious for spring. One more snow storm and we should be done with winter--Hooray!

The last few days I have been sick. Don't feel too bad for me. Captain Awesome took better care of me then I had taken care of him when he was sick. I also have had two sweet children taking care of me. When I was vomiting Big Dog would come into the bathroom and try to comfort me. One night he even brought me an opened bottle of medicine with a measuring lid. I don't know how he managed to get the child proof lid off. But, it was very sweet...and a little worrisome. Rooster wasn't feeling good on Wednesday so she stayed back from school. She ended up taking care of GH so I could rest;) At one point she told me I needed to eat. She got a jello cup and spoon, then placed them on an activity tray and brought them to me. I could get use to that sort of treatment.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day

I am recovering from the flu. So I haven't done much with the kids.

We did manage to do some St. Patrick coloring pages. We also managed to make our annual leprechaun trap. This year we decided that since leprechauns keep their gold at the end of a rainbow, we would try to trick one this way. We drew a very fancy rainbow and taped it to the outside of a clear draw string bag. We put chocolate gold coins at the bottom of the bag so it looks like the gold is at the end of the rainbow. When the leprechaun goes inside to retrieve his gold his weight will pull the strings together trapping the leprechaun. Seems simple enough to us.

FYI: At the time that this post was published we still hadn't caught an elusive leprechaun.

****UPDATE*****

Leprechauns are tricky. We found our trap emptied of all the chocolate gold coins. The following letter was left in their place.....

So Fred thinks he's pretty clever. But, like I told the kids we are going to have the last laugh. Fred hasn't yet realized that the gold coins are chocolate coins. Boy, is he gonna be disappointed.

Rooster didn't get to go to school today. But, she still enjoyed running around the house in this ridiculous green sweater:)

ABC

Even though she mastered the alphabet a few years ago. Rooster wanted me to draw out lowercase alphabet lilly pads. She loves jumping from letter to letter. I'm going to start having her spell words by jumping to letters to spell out the word. I'm sure my little plan will suck the fun right out of this activity:)

GH loves the lilly pads. Last year he wasn't big enough to really use them. This spring he is ready. GH already knows quite a few letters. He is only missing one vital skill for this activity. He hasn't learned how to jump yet. But, he does a pretty good job faking it:)

Pretzels

We made our neighbors the Lenten pretzels that were featured on Catholic Icing. The kids had a great time making them. And they turned out a lot better than I expected:)

The cute little cards that went with the pretzels can be printed off at Catholic Icing.
Despite what it looks like in this picture Big Dog was really excited to deliver them with me.

Big Boys

My boys are growing up before my eyes....

GH knows as much about electronics as I do. Here he is connecting the internet cable to our laptop.

And Big Dog helped set the table today. He wasn't even asked. He just wanted to help mommy:)

And yes, we are still using our Santa Claus plates:)

Happy Name Day Rooster

Today is Roosters name day. Her friend who came to visit was more than happy to help celebrate. Rooster wanted yellow cupcakes and frosting because its her favorite color now:)
Roosters new Czech dolls name is Kveta:)

Celebrating St. Patricks Day

Catholic Icing is the best blog EVER. We got this St. Patricks coloring page there. While the kids colored I explained who and what St. Patrick did.

Rooster really liked the explanation how the three leaf clover is 3 in 1 like God.

We also got the idea for a St. Patricks snake banishment round-up. The kids LOVED it. Even Big Dog loved it and he has been sick today:(

GH would catch the snakes then crumple them and throw them to the ground. Big Dog really liked stomping on them. I don't think that's exactly how it goes in the legend;)
